Project Azam e Alishan

As of 2019, Pakistan has a literacy rate of 58% while the rest 42% remains deprived of education. To cut this gap by as little as 0.5% is what Learners’ Resource Galaxy takes pride and charge in. After all, a seed sowed gives its fruit in the years to come and what better date than the date that marks Pakistan’s 73rd year of independence.
To add flavor to this occasion, Learners’ Resource Galaxy organized a four-day event
“Azm-e-Aalishan”. For this program, through the help of an acquaintance LRG gathered6 privileged childrenand 2 adults and trained and guided them to conduct sessions for the underprivileged school children who have access to little or no education. As the former were energized andpositively motivated to know themselves and play their partthey participated enthusiastically in all the activities and followed the instructions so they could take charge and make a difference!

In the words of Mrs. Humaira Salman, the directress of Learners’ Resource Galaxy

“It is a project by the heart! Spending 25 years or perhaps even more in the field of education. I have come to this conclusion that children learn best when they work in stress free and insult free environment. And to add on some more colours things can work even better if the concepts are taught by their peers.”

The program comprised mainly of different activities as Mrs. Humaira believes that making children do is far more fruitful and interesting than lecture based teaching. Through the course of 4 days there was a drastic and visible change in the glee, confidence, curiosity and urge to gain knowledge of the participants! At both the levels – learning as well as executing.

As the plan was based upon the integrated model of learning, we were able to outdistance academic as well as social and emotional milestones. The interdisciplinary approach enabled the children to bridge communication gap and enhance collaboration between the young trainers and their trainees.

Overall, the children were delighted to respect and appreciate diversity, the young authors created stories and designed their story books and when they replicated this activity the story writing task became an exciting experience for the children of the school. The young scientists after training motivated the school children to be mindful of the world around them. LRG was proud to host such an event. Their vision of giving breath to the education in Pakistan was actually gaining magnitude, even if the magnitude accounted for not more than a baby’s first step!
